Use What You Have

It seems we often obsess over what we don’t have. As a creative, I notice this. When making videos about a place, I think about the places I haven’t been or filmed or experienced. But, the trick is working with the limitations, because there will always be things you wish were that are not. But do you sit in lack and say “I can’t” because… or do you act regardless?

I can say I’ve done both and I still do both. But I’m reminded now that to move and create with the limitations is the only option there is. To accept the imperfect or perceived imperfection is from where tremendous beauty is born.

Like a painter who has only a few colors on their but represents the world as they see it within those elements and produces something that reminds us that creating within our limitations is the definition of creativity. It is within the limitations that we have opportunity for depth and attention.

Our answer is to embrace our limitations, our resources, the cards at hand and play not with a sense of lack, but a sense of joy and abundance… to reframe the limited as beautifully complete.

That’s the challenge on my mind now, to move from finding excuses to respecting all the opportunities that I’m given.

Wishing the same for you,

Naser
