The first book to really change my life
"The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle was a pivotal book in my life. The core concept, as stated in the title, is presence within the space-time-place we call Now. A place so many of us occupy unconsciously. As I write these words and think of my first experiences with the audiobook, I feel drawn into that presence. Such was its effect on me.
For what felt as the first time, I was introduced to the joy and power of being in the now, of using my energy here, instead of imagining how to address some future concern or problem. It's a powerful book and one I personally felt called to listen to and explore continuously. But like any tool, it may not be fit for everyone and every time. Though I would encourage anyone to spend even a little time exploring its premises and invitation to presence.
For me it felt like the opening of new windows into the world and life and spirituality, windows I had not imagined could exist really. It was a transformative experience. That said it was an introduction, and eventually I needed a more practical approach, and Vipassana meditation has become that for me.
But I do also feel inclined to revisit its words, as too long has passed since my last listening and I know each time I will hear the concepts and understandings in the way I need.
I'd love to hear any experience you've had with this book or other books of a similar nature.
Wishing for you some time in now,
Naser
