Niching Down is a Trap

Niching down is a trap. It may seem like the road to growth and monetizing—and it is—but it's still a trap. When you niche down, or over focus on one thing, you attract an audience that's very good for that specific niche. But it's often at the expense of not broadening your skill set beyond that.

Like any advice, this might not be for everyone. If you're someone that experiences constant curiosity, it might be good to spend more time improving in a particular format. It's a balance.

But too often creators and artists get success in one format and focus in on that so much that they become afraid to explore other formats and to explore their potential. And when you become really good at one format, it becomes that much harder to experiment. Because there's a fear you won't be good at the new format. You haven't done it before—you need time to develop your skill in it—and so you don't.

That's sad, so I encourage you and myself to think about that. By all means put time into getting good at something, take advantage of what you've become good at, but don't do a disservice to your own potential. Don't be afraid to explore, to fail. Because beyond that is where the creativity, innovation, and magic is.

In any case, keep creating. And checkout our free creator accountability and support group.

Take care,
