I Hate UGC

It stands for User Generated Content. It’s a marketing term for getting us all to be part of the advertising machine. It’s simple. You make media about products and they pay you per views or clicks.

I’ve strongly considered it. But I can’t help but hate that every form of creativity has to get twisted into selling stuff we don’t need. But you’ve got to make money, right? And if you are a creative it’s the lowest hanging fruit. Tik Tok Shop gives you the opportunity to sign up and sell all kinds of enticing junk. I don’t blame those who do it and I won’t blame myself if I do it.

The market pays the artists so they can keep creating. But you get better at what you do, and if that becomes your focus I think it’ll become a lot harder to do much else. So while I appreciate you considering me for the UGC accelerator program, I think it might not be the right fit for me right now. Though I’ll let you know if I change my mind, because I damn sure do need the money.
