How to Bottle Lightning
The more time I’ve spent creating things, the more I’ve come to appreciate the value of enthusiasm. It’s the driving force and when it’s not there, it’s a real drag. The challenge for me has always been that enthusiasm shows up unexpectedly, and it can feel out of place, or lower in reasonable priority. But ultimately, every time I push enthusiastic ideas aside, I come to regret it. The idea quickly loses energy and becomes like every other greyed-out idea in my mind, awaiting the right time and opportunity. So, I’m learning to be more appreciative of those bolts of lightning and more prepared to put them to use when they strike.
As usual, there’s probably a balance to be struck between running after enthusiasm and rational choices. But in my case, I’m not creating as much as I’d like to, and enthusiasm feels like everything right now. It creates passion in the process that will be visible in a better final product, and makes creating more enjoyable. An example of this is the recent video game review I posted. It seems fairly random, but I think the enthusiasm makes up for it.

Hope you’re well and valuing your enthusiasm whenever it arises.
