About Guru Walk
This weekend, I had an opportunity to use a free tool that I have been curious about for a while. Guru Walk (not-sponsored, though I wish) is a site and tool that lists free walking tours around the world. There is an expectation of tipping the guides, but the amount is up to you. Important to note, Guru Walk does charge guides (when they have 5+ guests) 2-2.5 euros per guest. That said, it’s an incredible tool for travelers and one I plan on making more use of.
There are tours all over the world. Likely where you are now and wherever you plan to go and there are reviews and ratings, so you can easily find the best guides. We joined a Graffiti tour of Bogotá, Colombia. Turns out Bogotá is renowned for its political and socially charged graffiti. We learned a lot about the history of graffiti in the city, and how it’s been used to highlight past and present injustices. Interestingly, graffiti has gained a degree of legality and even city support. It’s a tragic, yet inspiring history. I hope to capture some of it in a video.
Generally, I avoid tours because I like the organic nature of exploring a city. Although, I do think that is an important aspect of travel, it’s also valuable to take the time and humility to see a city through the eyes of an educated local. I am very glad we did the tour, and hope to do many more here and elsewhere. I encourage you to check out Guru Walk. It’s an inspiring community of travelers and guides.
Happy travels,
Naser
