Colombia is NOT as We Expected
We've been in Bogotá, Colombia's capital, for over a week. It's the third highest capital in the world, with 26% less oxygen than sea level. So it takes some getting used to. Even as slow travelers, we found ourselves getting out of breath quicker and needing more rest. Bogotá isn't the Colombia's top destination for foreign travelers. However, we're quickly finding it to be very underrated.
Another fact about Colombia is that because of its location near the equator, it doesn't really have seasonal weather. You get to pick your weather by altitude. Cartagena for summer, Medellín for spring, and Bogotá has more of an autumn feel. Bogotá may not be for everyone, but we enjoy the chill air.
We're currently located near El Virrey Park. This is one of the most coveted areas of the city, and it's clear why. It's beautiful, comfortable, and feels very safe at most hours of the day and night. In general, from the airport to an hour-long walk through areas surrounding our neighborhood, we've been constantly pleasantly surprised.
Still, we've only explored a sliver of this city. We're being cautious, because it is warranted, but there is a lot to see and enjoy here. Also, we're currently staying at a very comfortable co-living called Build It in Bogotá, which I definitely recommend checking out.
Wishing you well,
Naser
