Am I Gentrifying?

Weekly Reflection: Am I Gentrifying?

As a digital nomad, am I contributing to international gentrification? The short answer is yes. But there is a longer answer. International gentrification is complicated, just as regular gentrification is. Not contributing at all is a challenge within the systems we exist in. However, just because we can’t totally avoid causing harm doesn’t mean we shouldn’t aim to reduce it. Every place and circumstance differs. As much as we reflect on our impact, it’s important to give grace to ourselves and others regarding circumstances and intentions we might not be fully aware of.

For me, I try to respect the wishes of locals. If I feel my presence is unwanted, I avoid staying too long. I’m curious about your take on this. It’s a controversial and emotional topic, so let’s lead with open ears and graceful hearts. The world changes for the better through love, not aggression.
