Starting a ______ is hard

Starting is no doubt the hardest part. It’s the most vulnerable part. When you’re starting, you have no experience or creative confidence. All you have is passion and fear. And the fear can really get in your way. For one year, I’ve been thinking about starting a podcast. To be honest, it’s more like 10 years. But for the past year, I’ve really been thinking about it. I’ve had notes on topics, a name, and even potential guests. But the fear stopped me: the fear of 0 views, not finding guests, and dull conversations that served no purpose.

It’s often the worst case that comes to our minds when we think of starting. But the more you do it, the more you learn that that’s just how it works. Everyone, almost everyone, starts off bad but with a desire to be good, and those who embrace that journey continue to become better and better at their craft.

I’ve been making videos for a long time, but making YouTube videos (longer videos) also felt very scary to me for a long time. But I embraced that journey towards progress. It’s a beautiful thing that we get to choose the journeys we embrace in that way. And this week was the start of another one of those.

It’s a beautiful thing to take on more and more of these journeys, and in fact, we find the greater the odds against us, the more epic the triumph. Whatever you’re thinking about starting, you probably will not be as good at it as you’d like to, but that’s okay. Embrace the journey like many artists, athletes, entrepreneurs, and so on have before you.

Wishing you more courage to start,

Naser
